HE IS RISEN!

introduction:

Have you ever received a gift you didn't deserve? Maybe someone paid for your meal, forgave a debt, or showed you unexpected kindness. How did it make you feel?

That's a tiny glimpse of what God has done for you.

Read This:

John 3:16 • Romans 3:23 • Romans 6:23 • Ephesians 2:8-9 • 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

This is the day everything changed.

Two thousand years ago, on the first Easter Sunday, Jesus Christ walked out of a tomb. Death couldn't hold Him. The grave couldn't keep Him. He conquered sin, defeated death, and proved once and for all that He is exactly who He claimed to be, God in human flesh.

But let's back up. Why did Jesus have to die in the first place?

Here's the truth we all need to face: "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Every single one of us. We've all lied, been selfish, harbored bitterness, ignored God. And sin isn't just a mistake, it's rebellion against a holy God. The penalty? "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). Eternal separation from God.

That's the bad news. But here's where it gets beautiful.

God loves you. Not because you're good enough, but simply because He is love. And in His love, He did something incredible, He sent His Son to take your place. Jesus lived the perfect, sinless life you could never live. Then He went to the cross and died the death you deserved to die. Three days later, He rose from the dead, conquering sin, death, and the grave.

The resurrection proves:

  • Jesus is who He said He is, God in the flesh

  • Death has been defeated

  • You can have eternal life

But here's what makes Christianity different from every other religion in the world:

Every religion says, "Do this. Be good enough. Follow these rules. Earn your way to God, without any assurances if you’ve done enough." Buddhism says meditate. Islam says submit to the Five Pillars. Hinduism says work off your karma. Even cultural Christianity says, "Be a good person, go to church, and you'll be fine."

But the Bible says something radically different: You can never be good enough. No amount of good works, religious rituals, or moral living can erase your sin. You simply need to put your faith in the finished work of the cross, where Jesus, God in the flesh died in your place, believing that His death, burial and resurrection pay for your sins.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Grace means undeserved favor. You don't earn it. You don't work for it. You can't buy it. You simply receive it.

Faith means trust. It's not about trying harder or being better, it's about trusting what Jesus did for you on the cross.

If someone offered you a gift, beautifully wrapped, completely free, you wouldn't say, "Let me pay you for half of it" or "Let me earn this by doing chores." You'd just say "thank you" and receive it.

That's salvation. Jesus offers it. You receive it by faith.

Have you received it?

If you've trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior, believing He died for your sins and rose again, you are saved, permanently. Not because of anything you've done, but because of everything He's done.

And if you're not sure, you can settle it right now. Just talk to God honestly:

"God, I know I'm a sinner. I can't save myself. But I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead, paying for my sins. I'm trusting Him, and Him alone, to save me. Thank You for the gift of eternal life. Amen."

If you just prayed that and meant it, welcome to God's family.
You're forgiven. You're saved. You're His.

He is risen. And because He lives, you can live too.

Think About It:

  1. Before today, what did you think you had to do to get to heaven? How does God’s grace change that?

  2. If someone asked you, "Why is the resurrection so important?" what would you say?

  3. Have you personally trusted in Jesus Christ alone for salvation? If so, thank Him right now. If you're not sure, who can you talk to about this?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me even when I was a sinner. Thank You that Jesus paid my debt and rose from the dead. Help me to rest in Your grace, not my performance. Give me boldness to share this good news with others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
